Thanks to the efforts of Christine Sterling (1882-1963) the 1818 Don Francisco Avila Adobe was rescued from demolition in 1926 and Olvera Street began a new life as a colorful mexican Market Place in the 1930's   Don Francisco Avila Adobe is the oldest surviving building in Los Angeles
