HISTORY
Back in 1861 the U.S. Marshall rented office space in the Temple Block at the corner(!) of Main Street and Spring Street.
For the rest of the century the county conducted most of it's business from this building elections were held there and records were housed,
there was the District Court (civil and criminal) and the County Court (probate and appeals).
The same block was choosen later to erect the new City Hall.
Today Civic Center is a complex of office buildings and courthouses for the administration of America's largest county.
Federal and State buildings are also located around L.A.'s City Hall. Despite an early masterplan the administrative core is a maze of modern architecture and historic structures divided by too much streets.
